Live In Texas review
New Zealand Herald, 03/27/04
The mundane title reflects the double-disc stadium concert footage. Selling teenage angst to the white kids in Texas? Now who woulda thought that could catch on?
"Are you havin' a good time?" Nope, bored witless by the cliches - visual and stadium pomp - actually, and don't "feel good right now". But thanks for asking.

Rock 'n' roll Immortals, beloved
USA Today, 03/26/04
Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain all died in their 20s, but they will live forever in the hearts and stereos of rock fans, according to Rolling Stone. They're enshrined in "The Immortals," the first of three special issues this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of rock 'n' roll. The magazine, which arrives on newsstands Friday, toasts the genre's 50 greatest artists of all time in testimonials by such admirers as Lou Reed, Eddie Vedder, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and Marilyn Manson. Votes were cast by industry honchos (BMG's Clive Davis), movie figures (Quentin Tarantino), critics (MTV's Kurt Loder) and a variety of colleagues, including Pete Townshend, Chuck D, Smokey Robinson, Dr. John, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Carlos Santana, Bo Diddley, Neil Diamond and members of the Beastie Boys, Linkin Park and The Strokes.

Linkin Park Donates $75,000 to the Warrior Foundation
SpecialOps.org, 03/25/04
Nu-metal band, Linkin Park recently presented a $75,000 donation to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation at a concert at the USF Sundome in Tampa, March 5th. Each of the six Linkin Park band members have chosen a charity to support during their tour, and for bass player Dave Farrell, also known as Phoenix, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation was his choice. Farrell, who has been with the Los Angeles-based band for the past eight years, heard about the Special Operations Warrior Foundation when he read about PGA professional golfer Phil Mickelson's "Birdies for the Brave" program in support of the Warrior Foundation. Farrell said it was important to provide hope to the children of fallen special operations personnel and to make sure they were not forgotten. "Phoenix and the whole Linkin Park band are truly great Americans and great role models for our nation's youth," said John T. Carney, Jr., President/CEO, Special Operations Warrior Foundation. "Taking time out of their hectic tour schedule to honor the children of fallen special operations personnel speaks volumes about their character, and the Warrior Foundation is very appreciative of their support." LP at the Paintball Tournament
NPPL, 03/23/04
A report on Linkin Park's participation in the NPPL Paintball Tournament, they got whipped! better luck next time guys.
From NPPL: Today has been surreal. Just When you thought it was safe to go back to the beach couldn't have been any truer. I never new there were so many people in the world. Getting from one end of the vendor village to the other was almost impossible. The grandstand was splitting at the seams from early on and the outside media coverage of this one event has probably surpassed the combined coverage of every other event put together. The LA times ran articles and pics. FOX were here filming, Channel 7 spent the whole day here on Friday and Rolling stone will be doing an article on Everlast and his passion for Paintball. If you thought all of that was special - the sight of B-Real, Everlast and their Stoned Assassins taking to center court against LINKIN PARK was unreal. When a convoy of blacked out RVs entered the VIP carpark at around eleven this morning, we all thought it would be the same old fleeting Celeb visit. How wrong we were. The LINKIN boys were stars. These guys were so keen to play. We even managed to keep Mike, Pheonix, Mr Hahn and Rob from the band, waiting for a few hours whilst key semifinal games were complete. They had no intention of just sitting in VIP and knocking back the beers. They jumped into their specially prepared kit from Raven, their NXe pads, Empire trousers and Angel markers and got down to some serious practices with WDP's Matt 'the gunslinger' Green. Considering they had had very little practice the guys aquitted themselves well against a drastically improved and focussed Stoned team (truth is Stoned asassins whipped them). After the game they spent some time on the WDP booth signing Angel posters. I thinks its probably just best if you just take some time to look through the pics.

Linkin Park Get Booked
Rolling Stone, 03/16/04
Linkin Park will chronicle their almost year-long Meteora World Tour in a coffee table book, available late this year in bookstores and through the band's Web site. The band is also planning a series of in-store book singings. According to guitarist Brad Delson, the book will feature a close-up view of the band "on stage, messing around in the dressing room and on the [tour] bus." Delson is hoping one moment in particular will be included in the book: when, during a tour stop in San Diego, P.O.D. singer Sonny Sandoval held Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington over a two-story balcony. "It's those weird moments that even I don't get to see," he says, "that will be cool for our fans to witness."

Chart Attack interview with Brad and Phoenix
Chart Attack: Where does the name Phoenix come from?
Phoenix: I was on tour with a band that I'd been playing with at the same time that I started with this band. I took a year and a half out of Linkin Park to tour full-time with these other guys. Long story short, we were with this girl who was just really annoying and she told me that my name was boring. My real name's Dave. I think at that point, I named myself Phoenix from the scene in Mystery Men where Ben Stiller does it. We'd watched it a lot at the time. And somehow it just stuck. It wasn't supposed to be a stage name or anything like that.
Brad: He started telling people jokingly, "From now on, I only answer to Phoenix." When he came back into the group and it kinda took off, people really took him for his word and started calling him Phoenix. Because you know, there's people in entertainment that say, "I am now 'The Sky.'"
Phoenix: I've tried to change it at points too, but it's kinda stuck. I'm considering changing it for the next album.

Linkin Park Caught Unprepared As Fans Flock To 'Lying'
MTV.com, 03/09/04
MTV report: The ambitious video for Meteora's scheduled next single is taking longer to finish than expected, and while the band has been waiting patiently, radio programmers and fans have not. Instead, a different song, "Lying From You," is blowing up and Linkin Park have no video prepared. "I'm not sure if we're going to do an actual video for it because there's only so much sh-- you can do with one record," singer Chester Bennington said. "It's like we can't make a video for every song on the record, so we'll probably do the live version from 'Live in Texas.' Put it out there for people to see if they want to see it and let it do its own thing." Not that Bennington is complaining about the situation. "I don't know how it all works, but my opinion is that if the radio wants to play it, let them play it," he said. "If the kids are calling and they want to hear the song, let them hear the song. ... I don't really pay attention to it because I don't really listen to the radio that much." Linkin Park are happy to bask in the success of "Lying From You," but plans are still on to release "Breaking the Habit" when the video is finished in April. According to Bennington, it will be worth the wait. "Joe [Hahn] came up with the concept for it," Bennington said, referring to the band's DJ and in-house video director. "It's an animated video but it's unlike any animated video you've ever seen. It's going to be something that's groundbreaking and I think it's going to turn a lot of heads. It's being worked on by a team of animators in Japan right now." The band will push the song to radio before launching the Projekt Revolution Tour with Korn, Snoop Dogg and the Used on July 23 in Cincinnati

It does really matter to Linkin Park
Herald Tribune, 03/05/04
"We definitely struggled a lot to get our deal, and a lot of people just had their reason," Bourdon said. "They would say, like, 'Oh yeah, we think you're good, but your style of music is already happening. It's (going to be) already over with by the time you get an album out, and it's not going to be the 'in' thing anymore.'" With the success of "Meteora," Linkin Park no longer has to worry about a sophomore slump. More importantly, Bennington said, the second CD has proven the band has what it takes to remain a force for some time to come. "Even if it doesn't sell like as many copies as 'Hybrid Theory' did, I think the record itself has proven to the world that we can continue writing good records," Bennington said. "I think our advantage was, we didn't spend our entire lives together as one band writing that first record … we have the ability to keep writing consistently good songs. "That's what we want to do. We don't want to be in a bandwagon of any sort. We want to write songs that will stand the test of time, that have meaning, that have melody, that have structure and that make sense to people."

The Independent has posted an interview with Lionel Richie and when asked which artists does he encourage his children to listen to? He answered, "My son, no matter what I tell him to go for, loves Linkin Park. I just hope it's a passing fad. Little Sophie is already singing along to Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Ashanti. What I have found is that just by playing the music - a little bit of country, a little bit of pop, a little bit of something else - I can influence them. I don't suggest; I just subliminally play the music in the background and eventually they get it. But if I say: "Don't listen to this music!" that's the first music they'll go to.

Here are some of the questions answered by Phoenix during the chat. For full transcript go to LPUnderground.com
achoo: Hi....... My question is: What were ur experiences while filming the new singal BTH or LFY.
PhoenixLP: Um shooting the video for breaking the habit was actually quite different for us, being that it's going to be animated. The entire process was different than normal.
alex: hi phoenix! ur amazing. i luved how at the san jose show on feb 16, u put on the girls jaket. lol. but anyway, wut is the funniest thing thats ever happened while u were on stage. thanx for ur time. u rock!
PhoenixLP: One of my favorite times on stage was when we were supposed to be doing an encore, and all 5 of us remembered that and realized that and left the stage, and Mike was the only one left on the stage. He proceeded to hype the croud for a few minutes until he turned around and noticed we were gone. He decided to stay onstage and sweat it out, and we finally saved him, we were nice guys.
Colly: i know everyone says it, but you guysrock! i cant even pcik a fav song anymore i love them all! my q is: im extrreemly curious to know, what did the others guys do when they found out it was you that turned the elevator off in the abandened hotel? (on making of meteora)
PhoenixLP; They didn't do anything because they were afraid of me.
DannybozZ: Hi.. I just want to know if U guys are planning a "re-animation album" like Hybrid to Reanimation for Meteora?
PhoenixLP: We don't have any albums planned that would hold remixes, however there are some remixes in the works that may surface on the
internet for some other projeks...
DJ: Hey Phoenix! I'm DJ from Pennsylvania, I was at the concert in Wachovia! You all were fantastic! I wanted to know, in the booklets of the CD's you guys made it says that everyone did backing vocals. Whats songs did you do backing vocals in?
PhoenixLP: All of them.Except...the interlude, I refused to sing on that song.
Hardcorel: Afraid to talk to a bass legend.......What advice would you give to a 13 year old bass/lead singer who just needs a little motivation/inspiration? It would really help......look for me in a couple years :D \m/_
PhoenixLP: I think the best thing you can do is just make sure you are playing your instrument every day on your own, with your friend, with your band. Make it a priority because that's the only way you can get any better.
PhoenixLP: And try to write good songs.
Ibanez22: Hey Phoenix, I'm the guy you guys picked to play onstage in Toronto. Thanks so much for giving me that opportunity. Do you know where and when they'll be showing footage of people that played on stage? And have you guys started working on the new album yet? Thanks.
PhoenixLP: We're always writing- so in that way we've started working on the new album. As far as footage of playing on stage, MAYBE it would show up in a newscaster, or possibly show up in some future DVD release...
