Fort Minor at Mansion Jay-Z and his crew snuck in the back door of Mansion on Saturday night to catch the Stateside debut of his friend Mike Shinoda's side project, Fort Minor. Jay just missed the set, however, and it's unfortunate 'cause the Linkin Park rapper was dropping fierce rhymes with the help of hip-hop duo Styles of Beyond and the tandem beats of a DJ and drummer. "The album comes out November 22 — one-one two-two, so it's easy to remember," Shinoda said.

Mr. Delson's post on the LKR Board of Directors will begin immediately and will help the organization gain visibility as it provides free music education to children across the country. Mr. Delson and the band members of Linkin Park have a long and notable history in philanthropic endeavors. "I'm extremely happy to be involved with an organization that provides such a positive opportunity for young people, says Mr. Delson. "Music education can be an invaluable component of a child's intellectual, personal, and creative development." "We are extremely proud in the amount of diversity represented in our Honorary Board. Chester to host VMA party at Cain's One of the hottest numbers to have during the VMAs is the phone number for NYC nightclub Cain's waterfront Amp'd Mobile pool party on Saturday. Guests who receive the hand-delivered invite must call a private line to receive instructions on where to meet their chauffeur-driven Hummer or Mastercraft boat. According to Cain publicist Steve Kasuba, in addition to the free-flowing Grey Goose, dancers and a parade of wake boarders will be on hand with host Chester Bennington of Linkin Park as boats drop off guests including Cain N.Y./Southhampton regulars actress Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), rappers Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, and singers Beyoncé and Joss Stone

Rocker, rapper are shooting to score With performances, nominations, previews and, oh, yeah, the awards themselves, MTV's annual Video Music Awards shows have been pretty much wall-to-wall music already. But for the show taking place next Sunday in Miami, the producers decided they needed more and hired rapper-producer Li'l Jon and Linkin Park musician Mike Shinoda to provide clips to function more or less as "score" music. "We're laying down the soundtrack for the awards show," says Li'l Jon. "MTV is always on the cutting edge, so it's something different to have original music from hip producers for an awards show." They will not be doing the music live, as is done at the Academy Awards or Grammy shows. Instead, they've provided recorded sound bites covering different styles and moods that can be plugged in at fitting moments. "The challenge was that they needed variety," says Shinoda. "I did 10 tracks, a couple of them a lot of Linkin Park fans will recognize the sound, while others are different, all the way down to some really stripped-down hip-hop sounds. And within each piece, there are different parts." "When you challenge someone like Mike Shinoda or Li'l Jon for something that's brand new," he says, "they rise to the occasion." Both artists would love for this to be a steppingstone to movie score work. Shinoda had a taste of that experience with tracks created for the second "Matrix" film (though ultimately they were not used) and Li'l Jon says he found the work Wu-Tang member RZA did for Quentin Tarantino's two "Kill Bill" films inspiring.
Joe's t-shirt store Talking about side gigs, Linkin Park DJ Joe Hahn has gotten into the retail business, opening his own store, Suru, which means "to silkscreen by hand" in Japanese, on L.A.'s Melrose Avenue. There a conveyor belt, encased in glass, showcases their line of custom-made, limited-edition T-shirts. "The theme for the first line was 'things that hurt,'" explained Hahn. "The next theme that we're running is 'dreams and nightmares.'" Shoppers who show up on the right day may even get a bonus treat. "I got my turntables set up there," said Hahn, "so you might catch me messing around."

Linkin Frontman Goes Solo With Linkin Park in the early stages of writing the follow-up to 2003's blockbuster Meteora, frontman Chester Bennington is readying his solo debut. "We took Nineties rock, mixed it with Eighties pop like Depeche Mode, the Cure and Bauhaus and smashed them together," says Bennington. "It's f***in' driving beats and walls of guitars." Songs like "Morning After" and "Walking in Circles" are in the can, and Bennington is especially psyched about a new song, which a friend says "sounds like T. Rex." Linkin Park hope to preview new material on the road next summer. Meteora sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, and the band's most recent release, last December's mash-up album with rapper Jay-Z, Collision Course, debuted at the top of the chart.

New FM coded message 'The Rising Tied' contains a song called 'Back Home". It features Styles of Beyond and Common, although the four vocalists are not all from the same home city. This song was an opportunity to reflect on what gives their respective home towns identity and in doing so discover the similarities.

Mike to attend Nisei Week Japanese Festival The 65th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival's Grand Parade will be held in Little Tokyo on Sunday, August 14 starting at 4 p.m. The parade route starts at Central Avenue traveling west on 2nd Street, north up Los Angeles Street, then east on 1st Street and finishes at Central Avenue. Parade participants will include the newly crowned 2005 Nisei Week Queen and court, many local community groups, high schools, elected officials and representatives from Nagoya, Los Angeles' sister city, as well as queen and court members from Hawaii, San Francisco and Seattle communities. This year's Grand Marshall is Frances Hashimoto, owner of Mikawaya and long time supporter of Nisei Week and the Little Tokyo community. Colonel Young Oak Kim (Ret.), chairman emeritus of the Go For Broke Educational Foundation was named Honorary Grand Marshal. The 2005 Parade Marshal is David Ono, anchor of KABC-TV's 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. news; and Honorary Parade Marshal is Mike Shinoda, guitarist of rock band Linkin Park. "It is important that we honor those pillars in our community who have really gone above and beyond to ensure Little Tokyo is around for generations to come, yet also recognize those who represent diverse segments of the community," said Hayato Tamura, president of the Nisei Week Foundation. "We are extremely pleased to recognize France Hashimoto, Col. Young O. Kim, David Ono and Mike Shinoda. They truly represent our rich and diverse community and we are honored they are a part of this year's Nisei Week Festival. We encourage everyone to come out to the parade as well as other fun, family oriented events." To introduce a new audience to Nisei Week, Mike Shinoda was named Honorary Parade Marshal. Shinoda attended the Art Center College of Design, and found that juggling art and music was exhausting. He attended band practice after school every night, but his diligence paid off. More than 35 million albums later, Shinoda is known as rapper, part-time guitarist, and beat-maker for Grammy award-winning rock band Linkin Park. Shinoda is very philanthropic, and in the last five years he started a scholarship at his alma mater, and been involved with the United Way, AIDS Project Los Angeles, Densho, Japanese American National Museum, Arthritis Foundation, and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Last year Linkin Park started Music For Relief to aid the rebuilding of South East Asia, raising more than $2 million for relief efforts. The 2005 Nisei Week Japanese Festival takes place in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo District from August 13-21. For calendar of events and volunteer information on the 65th Nisei Week Festival, please log onto www.NiseiWeek.org or call the Nisei Week Festival office at 213/687-7193 or fax at 213/687-6510. Chester's debut album update Sorry this update took so long! Ryan Shuck & I have been really busy recording and writing new material for Julien-K, we now have 10 songs finished for the upcoming album, and have a few more to songs left to complete. Over the past two months we have put the completion of the JK album on temporary hold because we are producing a solo album for Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. We are planning on finishing Chester's album and the JK album within the year, so if all goes as planned both albums should be released early next year
