Year end chart and stuff
posted by Jas, 12/27/07
Nothing major to report, Linkin Park is on the list of MTV's Best of 2007, no new clip or anything like that. LP is also on the list of Top 30 most-streamed videos across MTV, VH1 and CMT sites and 'What I've Done' is the year's top song on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Songs chart. The Philippine Daily Inquirer has a review of the "Minutes To Midnight" album. Unless there's something important to report, the next update will be next year :-)

Artisan News has an interview with Mike where he talked about Music For Relief, download here
"When we started Music for Relief we started it with the tsunami in South Asia. Music for Relief has evolved since then. Instead of just being on the back end, the kind of the recovery end of things, we're trying to be on the preventative end of things as well. That said we're doing different things that have to do with green measures, climate crisis issues. But then, when things like this cyclone happen or the wild fires in California happen, we kick back into gear and we try and help out as best we can."
Shinoda grew up in Southern California and he talked about friends that were personally affected by the recent wild fires and how Music For Relief was there to help. "I have friends that were affected by the fires and moved out of their homes. Lots of bad stuff happened out here in California and L.A. and that kind of hit home for us I think, you know. So, when stuff like that happens we just do what we can. We do our best to help out and Music for Relief is all about making these connections in the music that hopefully can help out the bigger picture. We have a lot of artists that have donated stuff to auctions and they were very helpful and we're very thankful for that."

Top 50 Albums of 2007
posted by Jas, 12/18/07
Linkin Park's "Minutes To Midnight" is on the Rolling Stones' Top 50 Albums of 2007 list, the album is at #25.
25 Linkin Park
Minutes to Midnight (Warner Bros.)
Now in their early thirties, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda are still angry young men, only now they're as riled up about world affairs as personal turmoil — "The Little Things Give You Away" and "Hands Held High" are as vociferous as any anti-Bush screed 2007 produced. They've broadened their sound a little, too, adding cooler keyboard textures, but with co-producer Rick Rubin in tow, their metallic crunch is as brutal and efficient as ever, and the tunes still feel as cathartic as a good punch to your bedroom wall.

Mike talks about SOTD
posted by Jas, 12/15/07
Mike talks about the 'Shadow Of The Day' single.
Linkin Park's latest album Minutes to Midnight was one of the biggest of the year. Mike Shinoda says their latest single "Shadow of the Day" is one of the most important on the record. "We were in the studio putting together Minutes to Midnight and it was a process that took over a year. Over a hundred and fifty demos. Tons and tons of time and music and everything. And whenever we're working on a record even if it's that much time in the amount of stuff that we generate. There's always songs that stand out, and you kind of know those songs especially. You know they're going to make the record. And this song 'Shadow of The Day' was one of them." Mike also tells us that the track didn't come to them quickly. "It's not that it came easily. Whenever we make a song we put a lot of work into it we have to tweak it and make it right. It's something about that uplifting sound of the cords and the music juxtaposed with the really dark lyrics." Linkin Park play St. Paul, Minnesota on February 13th.

Their simplest song ever, and their greatest — Brad Delson jumps out of the speakers with one monster riff; LP's vocal tag team of Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda sound more pissed off than ever.

It's the holiday season, I'm sure the guys are all back home with friends and families to celebrate Christmas, they will start touring again in January 2008 in Europe and the UK so until then there's nothing much to report. To the UK fans going to the O2 Arena show in London on January 28 & 29, when you step into the arena, remember, one historical event took place on Monday at the venue, legendary band Led Zeppelin played a one off reunion concert for charity and boy! I wish I was there! if you don't know who Led Zep are ask your parents. Here's a clip of 'Stairway To Heaven' (after thirty years I still don't know what the song is about LOL!) and 'Black Dog'.
how about listening to the original version for old time sake :-)
KROQ review
posted by Jas, 12/12/07
Another review of KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas concert from LA Times
Almost acoustic? Not even close when you invite Linkin Park and Bad Religion to the KROQ party. Holiday cheer is a relative thing at the annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas concerts, which often involve bands fueled on volume and intensity, not sweetness and light. That was especially true Saturday at the hard-rocking opening show of the station's two nights at the Gibson Amphitheatre.
No act was louder, angrier or more ebullient than top-billed Linkin Park, the multiplatinum rock/hip-hop hybrid from Agoura Hills. Late in its set, rapper-multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda played a quiet piano melody from "Silent Night," somehow easing into Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit," a song of intense loathing and desperation sung by Chester Bennington.
Whatever the message, Linkin Park retains an inner energy that transcends the limitations of the nu-metal label it once labored under. On "Given Up" (from the band's newest album, "Minutes to Midnight"), quiet effects and feedback swelled to a thundering, shimmering wall of sound and heavy riffing from guitarist Brad Delson. The band also slowed down long enough for the new "Shadow of the Day," a romantic epic in the U2 mold. Full review

Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold bring roar to first half of KROQ bash
posted by Jas, 12/09/07
A review of last night's KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas concert. More photos added
Silent night? Well, hardly. With stacks of amplifiers backing each act, the "acoustic" tag of Saturday's half of this year's Almost Acoustic Christmas, KROQ's annual two-night bash, was all but a joke. Yet the event made for a fine excuse to assemble some of today's hottest rock bands at Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk.
Opening with a drum-line cadence, Linkin Park's show was dynamic, seemingly satisfying, yet moderately predictable. Songs from the headliner's most recent releases included "No More Sorrow" and "Lying from You," while cell phones and lighters swayed in the air as vocalist Chester Bennington belted "Leave Out All the Rest." The band later broke into a series of commanding hits, including "What I've Done," "Breaking the Habit" and "Numb," while "My December" found Bennington accompanied only by multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda.
The hits continued – "Crawling," "In The End," "One Step Closer," the latter of which saw the entire amphitheater blare "shut up!" during the song's bridge. (Remember what we said about a silent night?) The encore placed guitarist Brad Delson at the keys with a children's choir for "Faint," with its blazing chorus of "I won't be ignored" – a guarantee made certain by the Park's performance.
