Linkin Park leaves Entertainment Centre crowd awestruck

Linkin Park is one of the biggest rock bands of the post-grunge world and Tuesday night at the Entertainment Centre the five Californians proved why.

Delivering a rock show that should rank in the top two or three to visit Adelaide this year (only Muse, My Chemical Romance or Velvet Revolver could surely top it) Linkin Park matched the ambitious production with a plethora of hits from their three albums, Hybrid Theory, Meteora and latest Minutes To Midnight.

The band’s debut album Hybrid Theory alone has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide. The band’s dynamic show was even more impressive considering singer Chester Bennington was nursing a broken wrist.

Bennington fell awkwardly on his hand the night before in Melbourne but having an arm in plaster didn’t stop him from stalking around the stage and giving it his all. The frantic pace of the band’s bigger rock numbers including Faint, Crawling and Papercut gave added poignancy to the slower moments in the middle of the set when Bennington and fellow vocalist Mike Shinoda teamed up for the stripped back In Pieces, Pushing Me Away and The Little Things.

The encore was when the band’s giant backdrop and full production really kicked in for the old hits One Step Closer, In the End and stadium-rock party anthem Bleed It Out.

Chester Bennington, Adelaide salutes you.
