Phoenix comment on California fires
posted by Jas, 10/30/07
MTV has a comment from Phoenix regarding Music for Relief aid to California fires victims
Linkin Park's outreach project, Music for Relief, has set its sights on a new challenge: helping Southern California recover from the devastating wildfires. The band has contributed $50,000 to Direct Relief International — a Santa Barbara nonprofit that has been providing medical supplies to victims — and the donation was matched by SanDisk Corporation, a flash-data-storage-card company. "The wildfires are an unfathomable tragedy," LP bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell said in a statement. "Being able to help victims of a natural disaster like the wildfires is exactly why Music for Relief was founded." The band is also encouraging its fans to make their own contributions through the Music for Relief web site.
Angst a lot: Another look at rock lyrics
posted by Jas, 10/29/07
USA Today takes a look at the current top 10's lyrical stances.
4. Bleed It Out, Linkin Park: Linkin' back to their more overtly rap-rock days, this song defies easy analysis (that deliberate vagueness philosophy Dave Grohl espoused seems to be a Linkin Park credo as well). It is tantalizing, however, to interpret the opening of Mike Shinoda's rap as a disgruntled confession of how tough it is to write a lyric these days: "Here we go for the hundredth time/Hand grenade pins in every line/Throw 'em up and let something shine/Going out of my (expletiving) mind." The title would also tie in as a description of this painful process. (Or it could be about something else entirely. All part of the fun.)

Interview with Rob
posted by Jas, 10/19/07
Sydney Morning Herald has an interview with Rob and Chris Cornell before their concert in Sydney this weekend.
For Linkin Park, who emerged in the postgrunge wave of "nu metal" and have sold 40 million albums, the group dynamic prevails. Drummer Rob Bourdon says the band members' interaction helped them stretch their abilities while making their latest album, Minutes to Midnight. "Especially in the beginning, we were all just experimenting with different sounds and each other's instruments ... That forced us to really grow as musicians," he says. Minutes branches out from Linkin's rock-rap beginnings and resulted from the band wanting songs that moved on from their two previous albums.
"We knew at the beginning that we wanted to do something different and create a new sound," Bourdon says. On tour, the band have mixed things up by changing the set list each night and adding improvised sections. "Sometimes it can get close to a trainwreck in our minds, but it definitely makes it more exciting for us," Bourdon says. "It gets pretty monotonous if you're playing 30 shows and they're all pretty much the same show. Eventually you just sort of shift onto autopilot and I don't think that's good because the tour flies by, and the shows fly by, and to keep changing it keeps it a lot more exciting."
For 28-year-old Bourdon, as with many rock fans of his generation, Cornell has been a big influence. "I've been listening to him back from Soundgarden, when I was still in high school."

Busta Rhymes reveals that he has worked with Linkin Park on a new song called "It Looks Like We Made It" that will appear on his next album, Back On My BS, due December 4.
Busta Rhymes tells Rock Daily he's got something special cooking for his December 4th album Back on My BS: a song with Linkin Park called "It Looks Like We Made It" that's produced by Cool and Dre. "It feels like Rocky won the fight or something," he says of the triumphant track. "It reminds the people who are successful to go and help those that haven't been so successful, and represent the unity between people. This song speaks volumes to the globe — it ain't just about the 'hood, it ain't just about the suburbs, it's about everybody. This is one of those songs that can't be described better than touching the souls of the common people."

Linkin Park's 'Minutes to Midnight' won't disappoint longtime fans
posted by Jas, 10/01/07
A review of Minutes to Midnight
One of the most anticipated albums of 2007, Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" doesn't disappoint. Proving once again that they're hard rockin' softies, the band offers more than its customary rock/rap fusion.
There's a great mix of adrenaline pumping, scream-at-the-top-of-your lungs, fist-thrusting anthems on "Minutes," with "Bleed It Out," "Given Up," and "No More Sorrow" among the standouts. But once again, they show fans a softer side on radio-friendly hits like "Leave Out All the Rest" and "Shadow of the Day."
Although this could be my favorite Linkin Park album to date, be warned. If you weren't a fan before, "Minutes" will do nothing to change your mind. It's more of the same, but with a little extra depth. Above all, Linkin Park isn't afraid to show its heart. Listen to the lyrics on "Valentine's Day." And while a few annoying political statements also pepper the work, there isn't much to complain about. Even with songs that tend to drag a bit, "Minutes" won't disappoint longtime fans.
