Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009!
posted by Jas, 12/31/08 | share
I just wanna wish everyone a Happy New Year, thanks for visiting LPT and all the support all these years. Thanks for all the emails and kind words, I really appreciate it [group hug]. Tough times ahead because of the economic crisis so let's hope we will have a good 2009. As regards to Linkin Park, lots to look forward to in 2009, there's the new album coming out, new music videos, new interviews, promos, tv appearances, live shows, tours, etc. Then there's Chester's Dead By Sunrise debut album and Mike's second installment of Glorious Excess art show, so, another busy year for me :-) but I'm looking forward to all that.
Summer movies to look forward to are Terminator Salvation, Angels & Demons, Star Trek, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2012, Ice Age 3, Up and of course the mother of all summer movies, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (good or bad it's gonna rake in lots of $$$, cha ching!) Hope 2009 summer movies will be better than 2008's which only look good in trailers.
In the music world, look out for Guitar Hero: Metallica, watch trailer, yeah! \m/. Coming out in March is Pearl Jam's re-issue of their Ten album which will have 4 different editions, it's gonna be hard to choose but I am sooo gonna get it. Did I also mention that the album will be playable in its entirety on Rock Band 2? word \m/.
I'm sure there are plenty to look forward to but these are on top of my list. So, here's to 2009, I wish everyone good luck, good fortune, good grades, good relationship, good jobs and above all good health.

2008 Best of Sneakers
posted by Jas, 12/27/08 | share
Siby reports that Sneaker Freaker has a list of 2008 Best Sneakers and Mike is on the list at #5.
Even though I really enjoyed making my custom sneakers with DC this year, my favourite was a super-limited one done by a friend. Joe Hahn and I were in Singapore on tour and we went into this store on Haji Lane. We started talking to the guys in the store, and SBTG's name came up. The guys we were talking to said, 'Mark? Do you want to meet him?' The SBTG office happened to be practically next door. We've kept in touch with Mark since then, and he hit me up with these beauties. One of eight pairs and completely hand painted. Even though I'm not really wearing AF1's that much right now, I love these.

Warner vs YouTube

Statement from Linkin Park regarding the band's music videos that have been removed from YouTube
You may have noticed that some of Linkin Park's YouTube videos are no longer playing. Unfortunately, Warner Music Group and YouTube can't agree on a licensing term to get videos on the site. Until they do, you will not be able to check out LP videos on YouTube. BUT, you can still find your favorite LP videos on http://myspacetv.com/linkinpark. Please head there to grab anything that you want to embed, and replace your no-longer-working YouTube videos. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Road To Revolution review
posted by Jas, 12/22/08 | share
Another good review of the Road To Revolution CD/DVD .
Nobody does Nu-metal like Linkin Park and the new live album "Road to Revolution" captures the rockers at their best in Milton Keynes. Now most bands are credited for thier quality in the studio but often they can't cut it when it comes to the live act. Linkin Park ,however, seem to take it in their stride with confidence. Fans also seemed to find "One Step Closer" a real treat with classic aggression from lead singer Chester and it is easy to imagine his neck going purple when listening to this hit. The album manages to pump out 37 tracks in total over two disks and this causes one problem with the record. As soon as you start listening it is almost to hard to stop so you'll find your time will pass away quickly but it is well worth it. Full review.

No more LP music video at YouTube?
posted by Jas, 12/20/08 | share
We may not be able to see Linkin Park video or even fan made video using LP's music at YouTube anymore.
Warner Music Group's videos began disappearing from YouTube this weekend, the casualty of a contract impasse between the music company and the Internet's dominant video site. Negotiations broke down last week over licensing fees for Warner's music and videos, say people familiar with the discussions, who were not authorized to speak publicly. YouTube alerted its audience of the collapse in talks on its company blog, in which it noted that professionally produced music videos and those that fans create using Warner songs would begin to disappear. It remains unclear whether YouTube or Warner decided to pull the plug. Full report.
The statement from YouTube
That said, despite our constant efforts, it isn't always possible to maintain these innovative agreements. Sometimes, if we can't reach acceptable business terms, we must part ways with successful partners. For example, you may notice videos that contain music owned by Warner Music Group being blocked from the site. Don't worry - if you receive a takedown notification, you will have a couple of options to choose from in order to keep your original video creations up.
We understand this might be frustrating for some of you, and we're sorry about that. Our ultimate goal is to treat everyone fairly: to respect the rights of musicians, songwriters, and their biggest fans, so that everyone can continue enjoying original content on YouTube. Full statement.
Video: Interview with Mike & Rob on Artisan News
posted by Jas, 12/19/08 | share
Artisan News has another clip of Mike talking about the Milton Keynes show, download here.
"As far as doing this show with Jay in England I'm going to be completely self-serving -- and I think Jay would have a good laugh if he ever sees this -- but he opened for us, just to be really clear about that. That to me, that's always a fun fact to throw out there for my friends. Living in the U.S. we're both multi-platinum artists. That's in the U.S. though. You start to go to other territories, and it's a different story. Just like with any band. There are some areas where we're in Germany, and some band you've never heard of, we open for them there because we do really well in Germany but they've been there for ten, fifteen years. It was exciting for me, personally, when I was able to call my friends and be like (in a fake conceited voice), 'Yeah, you know Jay's opening for us in Milton Keynes, you know, because we're just so huge.' (Laughs at self). I can laugh about these things because I don't take our band too... I take our music seriously to the degree that I put a lot of effort into it, and all of us do, and it's important to us, but as far as the stature, celebrity of our band, like, 'whatever.'"
Producing a new Cypress Hill song
posted by Jas, 12/17/08 | share
Mike has updated his blog with news about the song he had produced for Cypress Hill.
Fast forwarding to today, I recently got word back from B-Real, Sen, and their management: a track I did for them is going to be on their next record. I didn't do a verse on it, just music / production. It's a slightly darker, laid-back track, but has a great vibe. I wanted to get back to the mood from their first three albums, without trying to sound like Muggs (not that I could, that dude has made some classics). I made a track from guitar, bass, mellotron, and drums (and even played a little harmonica) to give it a vintage sound, then sampled my own performance. It sounds like I sampled it off of vinyl, but it's actually all original music. Pretty fun. Anyway, it's probably going to be a while before their new record comes out, but I figure I'd give you the early heads-up here.

Camp Freddy concert review and photos
posted by Jas, 12/12/08 | share
Added more photos of Chester and Camp Freddy's concert at the Roxy theatre last night. Here's what Dave Navarro said about Chester's performance.
Later we were joined by Slash and Chester Bennington for Whole Lotta Love and Paradise City, which were the ultimate finale. Chester also did an incredible version of Mountain Song with the core band. Of all the people who I have heard sing that song, Chester is second best, after Perry of course. Chester obviously respects the song and really does it justice in his delivery and clear intentions to stay true to the original version. He also tore up Ace of Spades.

Review: Camp Freddy at The Roxy
posted by Jas, 12/10/08 | share
Artist Direct has a review of Camp Freddy's concert at The Roxy in West Hollywood last night. Watch video clips here. Mike has some photos up on his blog.
Next came a true clash of the titans. Bassist Chris Chaney began churning out the slow, ominous roll at the beginning of Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song," and suddenly Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington took to the stage. A torrent of energy spread through the building, and everything erupted. Watching Chester with Camp Freddy is like bridging the generational gap. Chester showcased a vocal prowess and style that matched the legends beside him. He can hold his own alongside former Guns N' Roses and Jane's Addiction members, fitting right in. In fact, his presence caused a surge, as he simply killed the song's chorus. At the same time, Navarro conjured Hendrix on the solo and unleashed his best lead of the evening. Their chemistry was palpable and infectious.
However, it got better. Slash stormed the stage during Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." He oscillated between strange toggle switch schizophrenia and mind-blowing fretwork. Slash simply bled soul all over the stage, as he and Chester brought the show to rapturous heights. Sorum nailed the drum break, injecting it with a tribal flair. As Slash tore through "Paradise City" with Chester singing, it was hard to believe Camp Freddy could top this. However, there's no doubt they will—probably next week.
