Projekt Revolution at the Bowl
posted by Jas, 06/30/08 | share
A review of PR concert at Milton Keynes on Sunday. Setlist here, bootleg vids here. According to this blog, it seems like the Milton Keynes show is being shot for a DVD. Update: Added another review from Thrash Hits.
Controversial rapper is a sunny success. US rap artist Jay-Z wows a 45,000-strong crowd on a sunny Sunday. After going down a storm at Glastonbury on Saturday night Jay-Z found mixing rap and rock a winning formula again at the MK Bowl yesterday. He joined headline band Linkin Park under the Projekt Revolution banner bringing rock and dance fans together for the first time. See the Tuesday Citizen for Sammy Jones' review and pictures.
------------
Linkin Park are the biggest-selling band of this century. That is a fact. No other artist has sold more records than the Californian nu-metal band. This is why, just like other superstars like Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth and Slayer, they're able to host their own global tour. It's time for Linkin Park take to the throne. Projekt Revolution is their baby. As early as 2002 they felt they were established enough to form a money-spinning, high profile arena tour across the US. In 2008, they had enough worldwide status to bring the tour to Europe. This baby's not just eating solids now – it's devouring them.
Jumping straight in with 'One Step Closer' was a bold move but they knew that they had more than enough material to fill their 90-minute headline slot, and they did. Chester Bennington was on firey form while Mike Shinoda did his best to continue the hip hop-based shenanigans. However, he did look far more comfortable when reciting more familiar lyrics or when sitting behind his piano. Full review

Mike on hip-hop and Projekt Revolution
posted by Jas, 06/24/08 | share
Skopemag has a short comment from Mike regarding the upcoming Projekt Revolution.
Linkin Park will head out on the Projekt Revolution tour again this summer. When the trek originated it had more of a hip-hop presence. We asked Parker Mike Shinoda if the genre still has a place on the summer tour.
"I really enjoy, hip hop groups or hip hop leaning groups that really push the envelope, groups like Lupe Fiasco, Gnarls Barkley, Kanye [West], these folks are out on the road doing their own thing and we actually, I think if there had been a place for those guys on the tour, maybe that would have worked out. Well, at the last minute they were able to find a place for Busta Rhymes. Linkin Park teamed up with Busta for his track, "We Made It." It will appear on Busta's new disc, Blessed. The Projekt Revolution tour gets underway in Boston on July 16th.

Linkin Park in Dublin review and photos
posted by Jas, 06/23/08 | share
A Flickr user has posted his meet and greet photos of LP in Dublin, Ireland, some bootleg vids at YouTube, setlist here. Here's a review from Independent.
"It's good to be back here," grunts frontman Chester Bennington, in tones usually associated with Bond villains. However, the real star is Shinoda, whose block-rocking rapping slickly counterpoints Bennington's grunge tribute act bellow. Musically, Linkin Park are far more sophisticated than a group essentially, pitched at teenagers in black t-shirts need be. Lead guitarist Bradford Delson romps through the a-z of proggy excess while bassist David Farrell's space-rock jams recall avant-garde guitar abusers such as Mogwai. If grown men must vent their adolescent pain in public, then long may (relative) sophisticates such as Linkin Park lead the charge. Full review.

We Made It on Billboard chart and review
posted by Jas, 06/23/08 | share
A review of 'We Made It' single from Manchester Evening News, the single debuts at #14 on the Billboard UK singles chart.
Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes returns with We Made It featuring multi-platinum selling band Linkin Park. Taken from his new eighth studio album Blessed (out in the summer) and beginning with piano, the distinct, fast-rapping style of Rhymes crashes in over a heavy beat. The catchy chorus ('together we made it…') is sung by Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and his familiar whiny vocals suit the track. LP's Mike Shinoda also produced the track, the guitars and the pop chorus add to the mix. This is an good example of a hip hop/rock crossover and We Made It works a lot better then most of Linkin Park's supposed style of 'rock' .

Linkin Park tell how Busta Rhymes invited himself along for PR 2008
posted by Jas, 06/20/08 | share
Linkin Park, Busta Rhymes and Chris Cornell talk about the upcoming Projekt Revolution Tour. I haven't been able to find the full press conference, so we're gonna see snippets here and there.
"We just pick groups that we think would be a good match together," Linkin Park MC Mike Shinoda said of the tour, which will hit 24 cities, kicking off July 16 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and wrapping up August 24 in The Woodlands, Texas. "We want to create a bill that we think we'd enjoy seeing this summer." After collaborating with Linkin Park on "We Made It," the first single off his eighth album, Blessed, Busta Rhymes was determined to join them on tour. "Apparently, Busta was telling people, 'You don't understand, I'm going to be on that tour; you need to get me on that tour,' " Shinoda recalled. "I was saying to our touring committee ... with the single, it would be really great to do at least some shows with Busta."
"For some reason, there's an interest in this tour, there's an interest in what it means, and I think that it's translating in other places," Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington said. "We've never showed up to the U.K. and sold 50,000 tickets, but when we say we're doing Projekt Revolution and we have these different bands, all of a sudden it's, like, awesome." Even after five years of putting this tour together, Linkin Park are excited to hit the road again. "When all the musicians on a tour feel like this is really an opportunity, and we're probably not going to be able to do this again, you're living in that moment, and you're being present with the fact that this is a really special thing we get to do," Bennington said. "It's just like I'm living out a fantasy."

Reading My Eyes lyrics
posted by Jas, 06/16/08 | share
Mike has posted the real lyrics to 'Reading My Eyes' and a little background about the song that was on the Xero demo.
i may have posted this before somewhere, but i thought since we're playing "reading my eyes" a bit on stage, i'd give you a little background. i think we wrote the song back in '97 or '98. it was an original demo from when the band was called XERO, which means it was written (and originally performed) by me and my friend mark. this was one of the songs on the demo we would send out to record companies to try and get signed, and it was on some of the demos we passed out to friends and new fans (the blue cassette with the baby on the cover).
we decided to put it in the show because a lot of the hardcore fans wanted to hear us play it–the only time we played it with chester before this tour was in tokyo, 2006. looking back at the lyrics, it's crazy; some of it's really dated, some of it's still dope, and some of it makes virtually no sense whatsoever. but i've seen some really bad "interpretations" of the lyrics on so-called "lyric websites" that are WAY OFF…so i figured i'd give you the real lyrics. here you go

Chester Bennington: "I am not Velvet Revolver's new singer"
posted by Jas, 06/13/08 | share
Kerrang! has a snippet of their interview with Chester where he dismissed rumours that he is set to replace Scott Weiland as the new frontman of Velvet Revolver. The full interview will be out in next week's issue of Kerrang magazine, if anyone buys a copy please send me a scan.
In an exclusive interview for next week's Kerrang! magazine Bennington said: "I'm friends with all the guys in Velvet Revolver and have played with all of them before. I'm friends with Scott [Weiland] too. I think the rumour that I was going to join Velvet Revolver started because Slash asked me if I'd come play a show with them in Vegas right around the time that Scott left the band. Timing-wise, it didn't work out for me, though. Maybe people assumed that invitation meant I was joining the band."
"It would be very uncomfortable for me to join that band because I'm friends with all of them, including Scott," Bennington continues. "If I was even going to do just one show, or record just one song with them, I'd have to know it was okay with my band, all those guys and Scott too. That said, if Bennington didn't have prior commitments or wasn't friends with all parties, he'd jump at the chance: "If I wasn't in Linkin Park anymore and I didn't know Scott, though, I'd say yes," he says. "Who wouldn't? The music is great and it would be a really cool opportunity."

I don't know what language this is but it looks like Azpravy site has an interview with Linkin Park, can someone translate it or roughly tell me what it's about?. On another note, Herald Sun has an interview with Michael Buble where Mike is mentioned.
You've just worked with Reseda Beach, the new jazz/hip hop act produced by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda. Is that part of expanding your musical horizons?
Totally. It's cool. I'm not "the Crooner Boy''. Not that I'm trying to prove something, but I'm not just a man in a suit singing standards. That song (Damn) is the root of the music I do. It's jazz. It's fun.

Linkin Park leads rock 'n' jock revolution
posted by Jas, 06/12/08 | share
Major League Baseball Properties' vice president of consumer products, Steve Armus talks about sponsoring the Projekt Revolution tour and what you can expect at the show this summer.
Linkin Park is a major player in the world of rock music and in the world of Major League Baseball. And if you don't understand how that's possible, you've never seen a show on the Projekt Revolution tour. Once again, MLB is co-sponsoring the annual All-Star road show, and this year it features Linkin Park, Chris Cornell, The Bravery, Ashes Divide and others. The first show of the tour is July 16 in Boston, and throughout the nationwide tour there will be evidence of baseball everywhere you look. But Projekt Revolution is only one part of MLB's sixth "Access to the Show" program that hits rock festivals all summer long.
A walk around the grounds of Projekt Revolution will lead music-loving baseball fans -- and baseball-loving music fans -- to Revolution Village, where MLB has the 18-wheeler set up with video games, computers set to MLB.com and TVs with live games via satellite feed. It turns out that Linkin Park is a natural fit for baseball, too. It's Projekt Revolution's third year with Linkin Park, and according to Armus, the band has a great relationship with MLB. "They're clearly a group of guys who understand and appreciate what we do, and likewise for us, we have a nice partnership developed over time to really maximize the event for us," Armus says.
"We're a different type of sponsor. We're a corporate entity that's not overtly corporate. We're not selling razor blades or colas or things that don't have a personality. We're selling culture, the relevance of our sport, and it's something that's run deep throughout this culture for 120-something years. The band responds really well to that." To that end, Linkin Park hosts meet-and-greets with fans by the batting cages, where the band members have enjoyed taking their hacks. And they're not the only rock stars you might find in the cages this summer.
Overall, Armus says, Projekt Revolution and the rest of the festivals are a perfect way to get America's oldest pastime, baseball, together with another one of America's favorite pastimes, rock music. "It's a home run," Armus says. "It's two things people love and it hits our demographic square in the middle." -- Full article
Linkin Park leads the Revolution to Irvine

A reporter from OC Register wants fans to go see Linkin Park's upcoming concerts.
If you're a Linkin Park fan and haven't yet seen the band live, you may be running out of time. Really though, you've had plenty of chances to get out there with the band headlining gigs at Irvine's Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Devore's Hyundai Pavilion and Staples Center in Los Angeles in a little over a year. So – and I plead with you – go check out these established rockers before they run back into hibernation when Projekt Revolution 2008 comes to Verizon on Aug. 10. This year's lineup features L.P. plus Chris Cornell, the Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide (Billy Howerdel, ex-A Perfect Circle), Atreyu, 10 Years, Hawthorne Heights, Armor For Sleep and Street Drum Corps. Sweet! Tickets are $24.75-$79.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Ashes Divide surprised to tour with LP
posted by Jas, 06/11/08 | share
Billy Howerdel from Ashes Divide is talks about the upcoming Projekt Revolution tour with Linkin Park.
"Yeah, I was surprised . I think it was put together by our managers, who are mutual friends. An advanced copy of the record got into the Linkin Park guys hands and they put us on. It was real nice I didn't even have a live band together yet and I got on the tour. So, that was it really cool of those guys to believe in this enough to go site unseen and put us on the tour not really knowing what it was going to be like. So that was really cool of the Linkin Park guys."

Video Download: Chester at Nordstrom Miami

Deco Drive has an interview with Chester during his visit to Nordstrom Miami to promote his Ve'Cel clothings, download here.
Lots of celebs are taking a dip in the fashion pool and fella's if you're looking for the latest must-have's, look no further. Deco's E-rod shows us how Chester Bennington of Linkin Park is fusing music, funk, and fashion.
Nordstrom at Aventura Mall was rocking out thanks to a visit from Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. Chester was hangin' in the 305 to show off his new clothing line, Ve'cel. Chester Bennington: "We thought it would be a good idea to come out, and introduce the line to people who might not have known about it, and sign some things for some of my fans."
And there were plenty of fans all excited to catch a glimpse of their favorite front-man. Debbie Treen: "I'm definitely the oldest one here today, I'm sure, but right in front of me was the youngest, a little baby." Emerin Ferreiras: "There's a lot of stuff going on in the t-shirt's a lot of different designs." And in case you're wondering what Ve'cel means?
Chester Bennington: "It actually doesn't mean anything. We made the name up, we thought it sounded really good, it looked good on the clothes and we wanted something that wouldn't define us specifically." The idea is you can look like a rock star without trying too hard. Chester Bennington: "I like dark and edgy without kind of being tough, overly tough, or overly macho, like if we're compensating for something, take the macho out and just leave the cool."
Sport cool tee's, hoodies, jackets, and eventually even something for the ladies to slip into. Rocking out some cool gear and taking time to pose for pics, now that's great style.

PS, i know about the noroadsleft site. although i doubt we can make it a single, i hope to someday play the song live. it's really just a matter of my voice being up to it: that song takes a ton out of me, and if my voice isn't 100% going into it, i can't make it through properly. plus, it might kill my voice for the songs that follow it…anyway, we'll see what happens. thanks for the support!

LOATR is the last single
posted by Jas, 06/05/08 | share
Mike has posted a message on the LPMB and LPU board saying that 'Leave Out All The Rest' will be the last single from Minutes To Midnight.
hey guys,
i'm posting this in the LPU and LPMB to let you know that LOATR is going to be our last single off of minutes to midnight. it's been a great run on this album. when we started, we had been away for a while...but debuted with one of the biggest singles of our career, and we're excited to finish the cycle and year with a really amazing video and some of our biggest tours.
i'm writing to encourage all of you to help us promote LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST--it's rare that an album spawns five singles, but MTM has done it, and we need your help in taking this last song as far as it can go.
please help us celebrate this great journey by spreading the word, emailing and calling your radio and video stations. tell your friends and spread the word...see you soon!
thanks,
-m shinoda

Linkin Park adds Busta Rhymes to 2008 Summer Tour
posted by Jas, 06/03/08 | share
Official press release regarding Busta Rhymes addition to the US leg of the upcoming Projekt Revolution tour. And Billboard has an interview with Busta.
"We started Projekt Revolution six years ago and have been lucky to have toured with some great bands," says Linkin Park co-frontman Chester Bennington. "This year, however, might just be the best lineup yet. We're looking forward to taking this show on the road and bringing great music to the masses."
Chris Cornell looks to once-in-a-lifetime collaboration on PR
posted by Jas, 06/03/08 | share
Don't be surprised if you see Chris Cornell jump on stage with Chester and Linkin Park or any other band on Projekt Revolution.
We caught up with Chris Cornell to get his thoughts on discussing some songs to sing with Chester Bennington and if he's looking forward to sitting in with Linkin Park this Summer while on the road. "Absolutely, either surprise or on purpose. Yeah, Chester and I discussed picking some songs and actually going up. Yeah, I'd be into that anytime anybody wants to do something with me or vice versa performing. I think that's what makes these types of tours work better. That's when you really take advantage of it is when you got a lot of bands together breaking the ice and nothing breaks the ice better than when you're onstage together in front of 20,000 people. It doesn't get any more intense than that. Once you've gone through that with someone you pretty much gonna be pals."
Video Download: Interview with Mike on Artisan News

Artisan News has a clip of Mike talking about paying service fees for tickets to the PR tour and MFR contribution from the tour, download here
"We offered to.. Because money is tight for a lot of people, we said through our fanclub, we'd pick up the service fee on their tickets as a gesture of gratitude. That's something that we did in the beginning of the ticket sales on this tour. As far as donating money to Music For Relief, once again we're donating a dollar from each ticket. Music For Relief has been involved in a number of different things. When we started it was... We always geared the organization to providing relief to victims of natural disasters. Right now there's a lot of that going on. There's a lot of people who are in a lot of pain, and we want to try and help out to the best of our abilities. Also we've got some different ideas and some differing opportunities to donate to different environmental groups; planting trees, other simple ways, we just run our bus on biodiesel, and we try and donate the food that's left over from catering, just things not to be so wasteful and things to help out."

posted by Jas, 06/02/08 | share
Artisan News has a new interview with Chester where he talks about forming and finding the right bands for Projekt Revolution line-up and Busta Rhymes' addition to the US leg of the tour, download here. Update
"When you put together a list of 150 bands or whatever, finding the ones who are into the idea, finding the ones who will take the right amount of money, finding the ones that are ok with their position on the bill, finding the ones that are available that haven't already made commitments or not in the studio, that's the most time consuming part and that's really difficult."
"There are certain aspects at work that are easy and there are other aspects that aren't. I think when it came to Chris it was very easy. We had toured with Chris in the fall of last year and we talked at the end of that and said 'We should do this again, it was too short.' My response was 'As soon as we find what that is we'll do it.' And this was it. So that was very simple. When it came to Atreyu, it was very simple. We asked and they said 'Yes!' It was like 'OK!'
"And then with the addition of Busta it feels like now we truly have accomplished what Projekt Rev was started out to be. We want to bring all these types of genres together and we love Hip Hop and that was the one element that was missing from this year's Projekt Rev. I think that Busta will not only fill that spot with grace and do a really good job performing live. I think that everyone will be engaged because he's such a great personality and his music is so unique and so good."
Busta Rhymes thankful for Linkin Park collab
posted by Jas, 06/02/08 | share
Busta Rhymes talks about his collaboration with LP for the 'We Made It' single.
Busta Rhymes talked about his appreciation of Linkin Park and how the song meaning changed during production and recording of the track. "First of all I'm a fan of what they do. Second of all the song and what it represents, like, a whole new meaning of the song came about as a result of just the story and the process and the story of the whole development of the coming together." The song is titled "We Made It," and Busta talked about hoping that the collaboration would happen. "So when it happened for me, because I wanted it so bad and I was so close to have it and couldn't have it, a couple of prayers was all I had to hold on to because at the end of the day it was so out of my control at that point that I didn't have anything else to put my faith in except the most high. So at the end of the day when I got the word that it went down I called my mom first."
