Review of Busta Rhymes "Blessed"
posted by Jas, 05/27/08
Rap-up has a review of Busta Rhymes upcoming album, "Blessed" and has this to say about the 'We Made It' single featuring Linkin Park.

This song is very different from Busta's usual sound. It has more of a rap/rock appeal. The accompaniment of Linkin Park adds a powerful guitar and keyboard element. The song talks about overcoming obstacles and emerging victorious. Linkin Park's lead singer, Chester Bennington, sings the chorus: "Together we made it, even though we had our backs up against the wall." This song drives home the theme of the album, which is probably the reason why it was chosen to be the lead single.

posted by Jas, 05/15/08
Pulse of Radio reports that Chester is waiting for the right time to release Dead By Sunrise's debut album. "The record's basically almost done, the music's really good, but I don't want to force my solo thing and interfere with anything Linkin Park is doing," he said. "So when there's a window of opportunity, I'm gonna take it." Chester also urged fans to donate money through Music for Relief, to aid the victims of the devastating cyclone in Myanmar. He said, "We're always collecting money and we're always trying to find the best places to go, and as long as the organizations that we feel are gonna be providing the best kind of relief are there working, then that's where we're gonna go."

We also caught up with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park to get his thoughts on how important MAP is to the musical community. "I think it's important because there's a lot of musicians out there who are struggling with addiction and it's really nice to know that there's a group of musicians in this organization within the music industry that can actually help you out. And so it's helped a lot of people out and it's really important."

Artisan News caught up with Chester at the MusiCares benefit and he talked about Dead By Sunrise. Download here. Speaking of DBS a couple of video clips of their performance at the Club Tattoo anniversary celebration are up at YouTube.

"This will be the first time we've performed. We're going to do a few songs, and we're really excited about it. Some of the guys in my band are also performing in a band called Julien-K right before they play with Dead By Sunrise. They are formally of Orgy." He talked about how the Dead By Sunrise is going. "They're really good guys. It's a lot of fun. We try to work around Linkin Park's schedule and Julien-K's schedule, so that's kind of interesting. It works out really well and the music is good." Bennington added that the show is a salute to those who have supported Club Tattoo in the Phoenix area. "You know we weren't sure how it was going to work out when we opened the doors thirteen years ago. It has just grown slowly and steadily for the last thirteen years, and this is one of the ways to give back to our clients who have really supported us by throwing a really good party."

New LP album update
posted by Jas, 05/12/08
Linkin Park has already begun writing for their next album, Chester said the band does not plan to release the album this year, but they are "way ahead of the game."

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington debuted his new band, Death by Sunrise, during an anniversary party for his tattoo parlor chain, Club Tattoo, at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona, on Saturday. "I wouldn't call it a side project," Bennington said before the show. "We're a full, ready-to-go band and so this is something we take very seriously." The band, which includes Bennington and members of the group Julien-K (which contains several members of Orgy), is a traditional rock outfit that is more straight-ahead and melodic than Linkin Park.

Speaking of his other band, Bennington revealed that Linkin Park has already begun writing the follow-up to Minutes to Midnight. He explained the band had "the itch" to start writing again and headed toward the studio. "We're way ahead of the game," Bennington said. "We're not planning on releasing a record this year. We don't know when it's going to come out. But we just started working on stuff in the studio. I never want to get in the way of what Linkin Park is. That's my baby. That's my band. Those are my best friends. The last thing I want to do is compromise what we're doing." Bennington also said he hopes to have a Dead by Sunrise album out by 2009, barring other commitments to other bands. "I want to make sure the record gets the chance to do what it can do."

Rockers celebrate staying clean
posted by Jas, 05/12/08
Chester talkedabout the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert.

A host of other rockers also stepped out at the fundraiser to show their support, including Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Chester Bennington. The Linkin Park front man explained how the charity was personally important to him: "It's pretty close to home, I'm a recovering alcoholic myself. MusiCares is important to me because its different being sober and being in the spotlight and being a successful rock musician." Chester said the evening's honorees were evidence that a rock lifestyle doesn't have to include drugs and alcohol: "I think it's difficult but it's definitely possible. You see guys like Alice Cooper, you see guys like Slash doing it, and that's good proof that it can be done."

Club Tattoo celebrates 13 years with Bennington, Julien-K
posted by Jas, 05/11/08
A short interview with Chester about Club Tattoo's anniversary celebration.

For a Tempe tattoo studio co-founded by the dude who sings for multi-platinum rap-rock heroes Linkin Park, Club Tattoo's 13th Anniversary Party May 10 at the Marquee Theatre sure is heavy on the electronica, with live performances by Rabbit in the Moon and Julien-K. What gives? As Chester Bennington, who formed the company with friend Sean Dowdell and was heavily involved in planning and producing this event, explains it, last year felt a little too much like a concert. This year, he says, they were going for more of a party vibe without losing the live performance aspect. And by having "a good, live, theatrical performance like Rabbit in the Moon can offer," Bennington explains, "we can really celebrate with our clients."

It's easier to understand Julien-K's place on the lineup, even if they have a largely electronic sound. Bennington is a member and will be performing a song with them at the event. Bennington and Julien-K members also make up the band Dead by Sunrise, so expect to hear their tunes as well. As to what they have to celebrate this year, Club Tattoo recently launched one of the fastest growing men's premium clothing lines, Ve'cel. They also teamed up with Etnies in 2007 on a line of custom tattoo-design shoes created by Club Tattoo artists. 2009 will see the Club Tattoo brand expand further when a Club Tattoo studio opens on the Las Vegas Strip in the new Cosmopolitan Hotel.

Camp Freddy Review
posted by Jas, 05/10/08
Chester and Camp Freddy played at The Roxy in Hollywood last night, here's a review, I'll collect all the photos and post them later. See bootleg vids here (Paradise City) and here (Highway To Hell). Setlist here. Update: More clips here. Billy Morrison has his review of the Roxy show on his blog.

The three-song salvo that followed "It's So Easy" proved to be the night's most explosive. Linkin Park's Chester Bennington took the mic for Led Zeppelin's "Good Times, Bad Times." His signature wail brought the song into the 21st century, bridging the gap between now and then. Slash and Navarro bowed at the altar of Jimmy Page, playing each line with reverence. A raw and vibrant "Highway to Hell" followed, as Chester did his most faithful Bon Scott impression and Sorum bashed away at the timeless rhythm.

Of course, our two favorite guitarists kept axeing out, not missing a beat or chance to blaze a riff. After the AC/DC homage, Chester asked, "You want to hear some f***ing Guns N' Roses?" The crowd erupted, and the band launched into "Paradise City." The audience clapped in unison as Slash ripped through the opening with the same fire he had in the '80s. At one point, Chester posed a question that resonated. "Do you have any idea what you're witnessing on this f***ing stage tonight?" Everyone in attendance certainly did, and that's why they walked away all smiles. Whether they had passes or not, everyone got a little closer to the Strip's legend last night. Full review
