Interview with B-Real
posted by Jas, 02/26/09 | share
B-Real talks about Cypress Hill's next album and working with Mike.
So what can fans expect from the Hill's upcoming release? "Tommy Morello is on the album, and he brings his incredible vibe to a song whose name I can't remember right now," says B. "We also did a track with Pete Rock, and I've been waiting years to work with that guy. The guy is a legend. Plus, Mike Shinoda is also on there, and he's also incredible. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by this album, which will hopefully be out later in the year."
Update: Actually I forgot that Mike talked about this back in December, thanks to everyone who pointed that out.
Interview with Julien-K / Questions for Julien-K
posted by Jas, 02/26/09 | share
OC Register has an interview with Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh where they talk about Julien-K and their upcoming album, "Death To Analog", the article also mention that Julien-K and Chester's Dead By Sunrise plan to tour together.
But music is where Shuck's head is at now – and it's filled. Julien-K's album drops in just a few weeks, yet Shuck and Derakh have also had a hand in shaping the debut from Dead by Sunrise, a side project from Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington. That disc will be out this summer – at which point the two groups, who share several members, plan on touring together, definitely with an O.C. stop on the itinerary."It's an unconventional way of doing things for sure," Shuck says. "It would be like if Tool and A Perfect Circle toured together." Full interview.
Muen magazine also an interview with the duo where they talked a little bit about working on Dead By Sunrise album and the 'Kick The Bass' video.
MUEN: We heard from The Delta Fiasco on interviewing them that they have utilized your home and studio Ryan for recording. Is that where most of your work was done on this CD?
Ryan: Yes. That's where most of Dead by Sunrise, that's were Julien-K, that's where The Delta Fiasco, the Transformers "Revenge of the Fallen" was created. All of it is created at either mine or Amir's studio. We live close to each other and have pretty decked out studios in our homes that are exact duplicates that are real live studios and not just a converted bedroom. We work so fucking much that I don't know how we would do it if they were not in our houses. At some point maybe we will move them somewhere but right now it works to have ..Brandon.. working on some music and Chester up in L.A. tracking vocals and then returning here to work on combining them and writing more for Dead by Sunrise. Amir's house is set up for programming and mixing and mine is set up for a lot of people to be there but the gear is the same and redundant. My house has no privacy mainly and is ground central or ground zero for all these bands to do these songs and say that shit will be on the radio next year so that is cool.
MUEN: Noticed there is no bass player in the live line-up so, other than those listed as "official" band members, who all have contributed to the writing and recording of the songs?
Ryan: Chester and Fu mostly but there are some other people. We both have friends that play on the record in some capacity.
Amir: I actually co-wrote a couple of songs with my cousin. Scott Cutler also wrote some things too. We purposely don't have a bass player in the band. That is how it's meant to be. What we are doing in Dead by Sunrise is the more typical lineup with Brandon playing bass and Fu playing keyboards. We really wanted to blur the line in this band and have the computer running that (the bass) in Julien-K. The bass is really important and so we use the technology to make it more prominent and different. Full interview.
Speaking of Julien-K, Felipe will be interviewing Julien-K and he's collecting questions from fans that will be submitted on Monday, March 2, so if you have any question please send it to felipe_intheend@yahoo.com.br

Chester honoured to be playing Knebworth
posted by Jas, 02/09/09 | share
Chester talks to NME about playing at the Sonisphere Festival and hinted that fans might get to hear some new LP songs.
"As I've become aware of the awesome bands who have played Knebworth over the years I realise what an honour it will be for Linkin Park. This is definitely one of the big ones," he said of the venue which has hosted massive shows from the likes of Led Zeppelin and Oasis. "You have to work on earning the respect of the fans in the UK," he added. "I would say the experiences over the years playing festivals over there, the audiences actually get better and better each time.
"I think it will be amazing to come out and play this festival. Obviously we're huge fans of Metallica as well. We've had the pleasure of playing with them on a number of occasions. We get on really well with Metallica and its so much fun to play with Metallica."
The singer hinted that Sonisphere might see the band debut some all-new material. "I can't promise because we're still writing," said Bennington, "but I'm going to put it out there that you might hear some new stuff from us."

Mike talks Dead By Sunrise
posted by Jas, 02/03/09 | share
Mike has updated his blog with his thoughts on Chester's debut album with Dead By Sunrise, he has heard 9 songs and has this to say about the album
I was just hanging out with Chester, and got a chance to hear some of his new solo material! In case you haven't heard, he's doing a solo record (he's doing double-duty, working on his album and the LP album simultaneously). The project is called Dead By Sunrise, and the album is being produced by Howard Benson. He played me 9 songs, two of which had (amazing) vocals. I thought I could hear influences from T-Rex to Tears For Fears, but overall it's a pretty punch-you-in-the-gut rock record. Very cool...look for it later this year, probably September-ish. It's going to be incredible!

Linkin Park in the studio
Mike has posted some new update and photos of the band in the studio writing their new album
Every Monday, the six of us get together at the studio to review the songs' progress. Since some of the work is being done at home, we use this weekly check-up time to catch up and stay organized. Every few weeks, we vote on the songs, giving them an A-F grade. The votes are tallied, and we keep a running list of which songs we like best. "C" votes and below generally fall off the list pretty quickly. Right now, we're got about 15 songs that are getting A's...but sometimes an "A" isn't good enough...
