KISS Lambert

No LP content but oh wow! KISS, Rod Stewart, Santana and Queen on American Idol, that is the best Idol finale ever!! man I feel old lol! OMG seeing Kiss live again is so awesome!, Adam singing 'Beth' wow! Adam and Kiss singing 'Detroit Rock City' double wow!! Adam and Kiss singing 'Rock and Roll All Nite' dies!!! and they're still wearing that high platform shoes at that age? amazing! I didn't realise Adam was wearing one too LOL! that is one kodak moment. Queen were the big surprise, I heard rumours that Kiss was going to perform and when Kris and Adam started singing 'We Are The Champions' I started to hyperventilate and almost passed out LOL!

I say it again this is the best Idol season finale ever! of course I wanted Adam to win but Kris is just brilliant too, it could have gone either way but I just sort of knew Kris is gonna take it even before the finale performance night. Congrats to both Adam and Kris. If you haven't been following this year's American Idol here are the vocal prowess of Adam Lambert performing 'Whole Lotta Love', 'Mad World', 'Ring of Fire' and 'Feeling Good' and the artistry of Kris Allen performing 'Aint' No Sunshine', 'She Works Hard For The Money', 'Heartless' and 'To Make You Feel My Love'. All songs and more available for download at iTunes, can't wait for their debut albums to come out!

New Divide review
posted by Jas, 05/19/09 | share
A review of Linkin Park's new song, 'New Divide' from Hitfix

While not as strong a song as the anguished "What I've Done," Linkin Park's tune featured in in 2007's "Transformers," "New Divide" has all the requirements of a music theme to a big summer blockbuster: Large, expansive verses? Check. Moral conflict in choruses that's resolved by end of song? Check. Some macho mention of love? Check.

The tune begins as virtually all Linkin Park songs do: with Chester Bennington's great, open vocals front and center with the music low in the mix, then, with a drum blast, the music soars and the tension builds. Hey, it works well for them time and time again.

Befitting the "Transformers" robotic theme, there's a cool, industrial, metal-sounding bridge that fits the movie perfectly and still works well with Linkin Park's metal edge. Note, however, this is all rock, no rap... we'll see if it signals a slightly new direction for the band. Bennington wants to believe that "Love is big enough to reach the truth that lies across this new divide," and by the end of the song, the band has done everything within its power to convince us they're right.

LPU chat with Brad
posted by Jas, 05/19/09 | share
From LPU Newsletter: Transform your Friday with an exclusive LPU chat hosted by Brad! Mark you calendars for 12pm PDT this Friday, May 22nd and come prepared with all your pressing questions. You can ask about him all about the band's new song, including everything from recording in studio to shooting the music video, and about the opportunity to work on the Transformers score. If you have any other questions, bring those as well! Brad just updated his LPN blog with some insight into "New Divide."

When Michael Bay asked us to contribute music to the newest Transformers movie, we were honored. We felt "What I've Done" worked great in the first film, and were eager to provide another song that captured the essence of robots-destroying-other-robots energy. Our only problem: that song didn't exist.

So over the next seven weeks, we set out on a rather ambitious adventure--to create from scratch a piece of music that would represent not only the band, but a multi-bajillion dollar, worldwide movie franchise. And it wasn't easy. Though the bones of this particular track materialized swiftly, the devil is almost always in the details.

At the end of the process, and through an amazing amount of teamwork, we completed our journey. The result is four-and-a-half minutes of sonic storytelling--one part classic LP, two parts electro exuberance, and one part mechanical mayhem. We simply call it "New Divide."

Hope you enjoy

Linkin Park cross the 'New Divide'
posted by Jas, 05/19/09 | share
Mike and Chester talked to FMQB about 'New Divide'

Bennington said that "this song could easily fit on any one of our records. It's definitely got a classic Linkin Park feel to it." He added, "We treated it as if we were gonna put it on one of our records and look it as the first single off the next record." Shinoda added that the track was inspired by the themes of the film, including Shia La Beouf's character Sam Witwicky "fighting his past vs. his future."

Shinoda said that in writing "New Divide," "We tried to relate to the character and what he's going through." As previously reported, the video for "New Divide" was directed by Linkin Park member Joe Hahn. Shinoda says the clip will "visually represent the dynamic collision between the organic elements and the digital elements" in the song and in the movie itself.

Mike talks about his new DC shoes
posted by Jas, 05/13/09 | share
Mike talks about his new DC shoes which is available for purchase here, all proceeds will go to Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship.

"We got an incredible response to the Xander Remix, a shoe I designed last year," says Shinoda. "I felt that a 'summer version' would be exciting; it's new, with lighter colors and patterns, but retains the comfort and durability of the last shoe. I wanted them to be worn every day yet still look and feel great, so I tested them personally. I wore them while on tour, in countries all around the world and they performed great."

"As a kid, I used to fold paper samurai helmets as part of the tradition for Japanese Boys' Day, a national Japanese holiday that falls in early May and celebrates children," he says. "It's kinda funny that the holiday coincides with the release of the shoe, which has origami-inspired patterns."

A word from Mike Shinoda
posted by Jas, 05/12/09 | share
As we all know Mike gave a speech at the commencement of Art Center College of Design last month, we've seen the video of his speech now blogger Martin Yan has written a report on the event and share his thoughts on Mike's speech.

But we were all in for a surprise treat. A former graduate was invited to accept a special honorary award and was slated to give the keynote speech. As I scanned through the program, I discovered that the guest speaker was, to my delight, none other than Mike Shinoda. Ialways knew him as the guy from Linkin Park. The happa dude who spat some dope lines and balanced out all the unbridled screaming from the white dude with glasses. Mike Shinoda, the rapper and rock star. But on this day, I learned about Mike Shinoda, the graphic designer, the artist, and father. More importantly, I learned about the man who wrestled and struggled and persevered in order to succeed. Full report.
