Waka Waka, official 2010 World Cup Song
posted by Jas, 04/28/10 | share
It's less than 50 more days till 2010 World Cup and I'm feeling feverish already! The official song has just been released, it's called 'Waka Waka - This Time For Africa' by Shakira, I love Shakira but to me it's just meh, not feeling the vibe. I prefer 'Wavin' Flag' by Kanaan, watch the english/spanish version below, I'm telling you, you won't be able to get it out of your head even after the video has finished. Now wave your flag.

8-Bit Rebellion launch press release and reviews
posted by Jas, 04/26/10 | share
As you know Linkin Park's 8-Bit Rebellion game is now available in the iTunes App Store (iPhone & iPod Touch or iPad). Full press release and game features here, Mike also talks to MTV about the game and below are a couple of reviews from various sources.
It sounds strange, and it kind of is, but it's also quite refreshing to see something other than the expected. The result ends up being more of an interesting experience, rather than a solid game. If you're a fan of Linkin Park, you'll likely get a lot of enjoyment from playing through 8-Bit Rebellion. The gameplay is a little too simplistic for serious gamers, but it can still be fairly entertaining at times. More..
Linkin Park always amazes me!!! This game is great, most in-depth game I have ever played. Comparing it to EA Games and all similar games this game is top notch. It's definitely quality. I love the graphics and the way to navigate yourself in the game. Plus, brand new Linkin Park song at the end of the game?! Genius. More..

Rafu Shimpo has a report on the East West Players' Annual Visionary Awards dinner and PRV has a video interview with Mike, download here
In accepting his Visionary Award, Shinoda said he doesn't set about his work with any particular agenda in mind. "I don't concentrate on raising awareness of Asian Americans, it's just what I do, it's simply me," Shinoda said, visibly touched by the honor. Shinoda also referred to his admiration of actress Tamlyn Tomita, one of the evening's emcees, and one of her best-known films. "Was anyone else here in junior high when 'Karate Kid II' came out?" he asked, which drew applause and laughs. "Yeah, that was really awesome." Full report.
Review of 'Carry Me Away'
posted by Jas, 04/26/10 | share
A review of 'Carry Me Away' a track featuring Mike Shinoda on Cypress Hill's new CD "Rise Up".
But even with Morello and Malakian coming out of nowhere, they can't hold a candle to the best song on the album, featuring none other than Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Shinoda steps in for some vocals and guitar work in the song "Carry Me Away." The song easily stands as a testament to the potential nu-metal had back in the day and how it can easily mix in with hip-hop, even with groups as old-school as Cypress Hill. This is far and away the best song on the whole album -- I could listen to it on repeat for hours. Full review

Linkin Park's 8-Bit Rebellion game is now available in the iTunes App Store. Log in to the App Store on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and search for "8-Bit Rebellion!" or click here to download it. Beat the game and unlock a brand new, unreleased Linkin Park song called 'Blackbirds'. Here's a review from Slide To Play
We haven't really seen an iPhone game where the band was creatively involved, and that's what makes Linkin Park's upcoming iPhone game seem so unique. The action isn't much to get excited about, but the interesting virtual world in the game will likely please any adventure or role-playing gamer. Even if you're not a big fan of Linkin Park's music, you can just put on your own soundtrack and explore the retro-styled environments. Click here for hands-on video.

Select LPU members will get the chance to play the game before it goes on sale to the public. Log on to LPUnderground.com for more details.
8-Bit Rebellion contains both Facebook and Twitter functionality. You can create an in-game friends list to connect with other players, to the extent that as your list grows, in-game AI characters will actually be replaced by actual friends. There's an in-game messaging system, too, so that you can contact people who are on your friends list. You'll even run into other gamers who are currently traversing whatever sector you're currently in. All of these features seem to be at the heart of the experience; the developers have gone out of their way to make sure interactivity is an integral part of their product. More..
For fans, Linkin Park is the game you want. For retro gamers, it's certainly worth a look. And for everyone else, it's the best game for chainsawing dogs. Because I totally did that. More..
8-Bit Rebellion appears to be neither a great beat 'em up nor a terrible one, but is surely the only one that rewards the player for being a Linkin Park fan. Playing the game on an iPod or iPhone that contains five Linkin Park songs download from iTunes unlocks an in-game trophy. Owning 15 unlocks another, as does owning 35. Other trophies are earned by adding fellow game owners to one's friends-list (the game supports text-chatting and players' avatars can hang out, though not go through the game adventure together). Some trophies are earned by sending in-game gifts to friends. The goal is clear: to network Linkin Park fans together and reward them for both spreading the word and for legally buying and downloading Linkin Park music. More..
The game will span several unique worlds, each based on a different band member. Many of the levels feature original artwork created by the band. The game will also serve as a showcase for the band's music. Original versions of some of their greatest hits will be joined by newly remixed "8-bit" version done in the chiptune style. Expect to hear chiptune renditions of "New Divide," "One Step Closer," "In The End," "Crawling," "QWERTY," "Hands Held High," "Faint," and "No More Sorrow."A brand new song, "Blackbirds," will be unlocked by players upon completion of the game. "Rise Up" review
posted by Jas, 04/20/10 | share
Cypress Hill new album "Rise Up" is out today, Mike produced and sang on a track called 'Carry Me Away', IGN has a review of the album and has this to say about the track.
Cypress' collaboration with Mike Shinoda, "Carry Me Away," a very minimalistic track featuring a drumbeat and some quiet guitar picking, is as pleasant as it is mellow, and it's very mellow. Although uneven, the good outweighs the bad, and we get an overall decent outing by Cypress Hill after a few years' hiatus.

Linkin Park and 8-Bit Rebellion update
posted by Jas, 04/12/10 | share
Sorry for the late update, quite busy with life at the moment, I'm the go to person and the back up plan whenever there's an emergency in the family so.... anyway, please note that LPU twitter account has moved to LP's own twitter account @LinkinPark. Mike did and interview with the Nerdist last week, listen and download the podcast here and Reuters has an article about 8-Bit Rebellion game
When avid technophile Mike Shinoda was approached backstage last year with an idea for developing a Linkin Park iPhone game, the band's co-frontman knew he wanted it to be more than just another run-of-the-mill artist app.
"It was important to us to do something creative and fun," he says. "We didn't want to throw a bunch of songs at the game, slap our name on it and cash the checks."
The result is "8-Bit Rebellion," a soon-to-be-released iPhone game with an iPad version on the way. Whereas most artist-branded games tend to be rhythm-based, "8-Bit Rebellion" is an action game that has users fighting enemies alongside members of the band. The soundtrack features several Linkin Park hits in both standard and 8-bit fidelity, plus an exclusive track, "Blackbirds," for fans who complete the game.
But according to Maryanna Donaldson, creative director of the game's developer, Artificial Life, the real innovation was the degree to which Linkin Park was involved. Each band member helped design a different "district" in which the game takes place, personalized to his individual interests. Shinoda designed the members' avatars and edited every line of dialogue. The process wound up taking the better part of a year, but Donaldson says the result sets a new bar for artist-branded apps.
"For it to be top quality and appealing to the fan, the artist should be very involved," she says. Meanwhile, the band's label, Warner Bros. Records, is supporting the app's launch with a movie-style trailer that will run in the IGN gaming community as well as virally through Linkin Park's YouTube channel. There will also be a Web site where fans can create and post 8-bit avatars of themselves.
"We're treating this like the release of a Linkin Park album or song," Warner Bros. Records senior vice president of new media Jeremy Welt says. Full article
